Does ADT Work with Google Home And Amazon Alexa?

You probably  know ADT has watched over families for more than 150 years, but you may ask yourself if this trusted name in home security can offer the modern-day ease of voice activation. You’ll be glad to hear the answer is yes! ADT works with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, and there’s plenty you can do. Discover what’s possible and get tips for integrating voice commands into your modern home security system.

What Can You Do With Voice Commands In Your College Station Home?

Now that you know you can use your ADT home security system with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, you’re likely thinking about what you might do. Here are some possibilities:

  • Disarm and arm your system
  • Toggle smart lights on or off
  • Control connected smart locks
  • Adjust thermostat settings

If you have your hands full with dinner, kids, or groceries, and need a fast way to turn on lights or change the temperature, just speak a command. It’s easy and lets you control your system without grabbing your phone or using the touchscreen panel.

Use These Voice Commands To Manage Your ADT Components

A quick spoken command is all it takes to operate your integrated ADT devices. Keep in mind, When commanding a device, such as your living room light or thermostat, you’ll have to use the name you already gave the device.

Here are several commands you can use with Google Home:

  • Hey Google, arm my system stay.
  • Hey Google, arm my system away.
  • Hey Google, lock the (door name).
  • Hey Google, turn off the (light name).
  • Hey Google, turn the heat up by 5 degrees.

Amazon Alexa has somewhat different phrasing, but it works very similarly. Here are some common ones:

  • Alexa, arm ADT in stay mode
  • Alexa, disarm ADT
  • Alexa, turn off the (light name).
  • Alexa, [[lock the (door name)]].
  • Alexa, set the (thermostat name) to 68 degrees.

You can also use voice commands to ask questions. You might want to know if a door is locked or the current temperature setting. Just speak a command like, “Hey Google, what is the temperature of the thermostat?” and you’ll hear a response.

Is There Anything You Can’t Do With Voice Controls?

Smart speaker integration does have a few restrictions. For instance, you can’t modify settings in your home security app by speaking a voice command. You’ll also have to enter a PIN when performing certain actions, such as disarming your alarm system or unlocking a door.

How To Establish Voice Activation In Your College Station Home

Establishing voice activation only takes a few minutes regardless of the smart speaker you own. You’ll generally follow these steps:

  1. Access the Google Home or Amazon Alexa app on your phone
  2. In Google, navigate to Devices or tap the Add (+) icon and choose Works with Google Home. In the Alexa app, tap the menu, then choose Skills & Games.
  3. Do a search for ADT
